Mobile Phone Games

Mobile phone gaming explained

Things have changed. Mobile phone games used to be simple, black & white, simple graphics, some playable but most a clear waste of phone memory.

With the advent of Java, colour screens and larger phone memory, the world of mobile games has moved on considerably. Mobile phone games have taken a forward step allowing you play games looking like they used be around on a console you owned 5 years ago!

So is it worth playing games on your mobile? Well their cheap, most cost around a fiver. Some are very playable with 'improving graphics' and game speed.

We think the true key to mobile gaming is screen size. Its no good squinting at a tiny screen frantically pressing every button in site, this is not gaming it torture! If you are really interested in games get yourself a phone with a decent sized screen.

Recommended mobiles for gaming : Sony Ericsson P900/910i, K700i, S700i - Good sized high resolution screen. Try the Siemens S65 - Good sized screen and buttons. Also consider the Samsung D410, E800/E810/E820 for all the same reasons. From Nokia we recommend the 7610 powerhouse - excellent screen, memory card and more.

Of course there are many other phones but the general rule of thumb is to go for a large, high resolution colour screen and plenty of phone memory.

  What about the N-Gage?

The N-Gage was supposed to change mobile phone gaming forever, and in a way it has. Although the first N-Gage was flawed due to some design issues it did bring us games in a more familiar form. A combination of good graphics and sound more akin to the Playstation 1 it looked like mobile gaming had finally evolved.

There is however one key difference here, the N-Gage & N-Gage QD are primarily portable games consoles with built in phones and not the other way around. More thought has gone into bringing a portable and fast games engine rather than a phone that you can play games on. Ultimately resulting in better games, therefore better gameplay, much better graphics and decent sound.

It's really to early to say whether gaming on 'normal' mobile phones will go the same way, only time will tell.
