Samsung D600 Preview

It's a fact that the D500 has been one of, if not the most popular Samsung mobile phones to date. Not since the long lost days of the A300 have we seen boxes arrive by the vanload - Only to be sold the same day.

So what should we expect of the D600 replacement ? Pretty much of the same we reckon !

One important thing to note before we ramble on though - And it's quite an important point to consider, the mobile phones that sell the fastest & become the most popular generally tend to be an innovative product & not an updated / revised model.

For example - The A300 was unique, as it was the first dual-screen 'see-who's-calling' phone. The D500 was Samsung's first megapixel & Bluetooth enabled phone. The Samsung D600 is neither and thus it will have a tough challenge ahead of it.

So what do we know so far then about the D600 ?

Well, for a start the D600 has a 2.0 megapixel digital camera with video and flash etc which is a natural progression. The most immediate change though is in terms of memory. The D500 had bags of memory but was limited in it's potential as it wasn't expandable. Well all that's changed for the better on the D600 as it does have expandable memory via Trans Flash. Samsung have body-swerved a huge pitfall here, as it would have cost D600 sales dearly if it had been omitted.

MP3 and video streaming are still featured, but now the D600 has what Samsung describe as Video caller ID - Whereby you can assign a video clip to play on selected incoming calls.

The D600 is slightly wider than the previous model although weight remains the same. The display is now a larger 240 x 320 pixels which will prove a bonus with all end-users.

Samsung as you would expect are taking the launch of the D600 incredibly seriously & have already promoted it as the official 2006 Winter Games phone - Not the cheapest method of advertising we agree but effective ? Without doubt !

So, in the meantime while we await the launch of the D600 - We'll leave you with a few more pictures of the phone - A press release from Samsung themselves & we'll have a full review for you the moment we get our hands on them !
