"If you buy one of these on an o2 contract, they have good & bad points. As a web browser & iPod, they're excellent. As A phone, do yourself a favour and buy a £20 nokia instead . The iPhone can't read your sim card, so you either use your old phone to put your contacts on to your pc & transfer them to the iPhone or you type them in one at a time. The Bluetooth is very limited, and won't exchange data with other devices, nokia phones, tomtom sat nav etc There is no inbox or outbox for text messaging , you can't forward text messages, and you can't "group" text. So if someone sends you a joke, grab a pen and write it down. Then type it out and send it to mr. A.......then write the message out again and send it to mr. B.... Etc etc People who had their phones unblocked have access to third party applications that resolve or partly resolve most of these problems."

The iPhone software is updated (just like iTunes) bi-monthly on average. With each upgrade to the phones software (called firmware), new enhancements are added. I got the phone with 1.1.1. since then 3 updates have come out - all free - and I CAN do everything he said I could not. The 1.1.4 update brings mass text forwarding, multi person texting. More updates are coming, including Flash players for the web browser.
Like he says, you can get 3rd party apps. This involves 'jailbreaking' the phone, meaning you effectively hack the firmware to allow you to install any program designed for the iPhone. There are numerous guides on the web for this. you can also unlock the phone with one of these applications.
I have a jailbroken 1.1.4 iPhone. I have installed about 40 different programs, games, tools. including a video recording program which uses the camera!

This is by far the best phone around if you know how to use it. My only issue is, the phone is delicate. and if you have a jailbroken unlocked phone, and update the firmware through iTunes, you then have to re-jailbreak/unlock, and reinstall all your 3rd party applications. only takes 20 mins but still a pain!
